Belgium approves 14th military aid package for Ukraine

The Belgian Government has approved a 14th military aid package for Ukraine, with the Ministry of Defence announcing it will purchase €32.4 million worth of 105mm ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder announced that the ammunition will be bought from the Belgian arms industry, and delivered as soon as possible so that it meets "Ukraine’s express request."

So far, the Ministry of Defence has helped the Ukrainian war effort by providing €306 million in lethal and non-lethal military support. Dedonder promised to continue "supporting Ukraine in every possible way to defend its people and territory against Russian aggression.”

The Belgian Government is also currently discussing whether to send emergency help to the occupied region of Kherson, which has been left flooded and without electricity after a major dam was destroyed by Russian troops.

Both the Development Cooperation Minister Caroline Gennez and Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten want the emergency response team B-FAST to go into the region and help out the population in Kherson. However, a B-FAST spokesperson deemed the proposals as "impossible" given they are not allowed to enter into conflict zones.
