Explosion in Taganrog

The war unleashed by Putin in Ukraine has reached Russian cities, including those far from the frontline. In recent days, there have been explosions in several cities across Russia:

  • On July 28, a rocket exploded in the center of Taganrog, located in the Rostov region. The local cafe suffered the most damage. A crater measuring 5 by 5 meters formed at the site of the explosion. The point of impact of the rocket in Taganrog is approximately 10 km away from the Taganrog airbase, where strategic TU-95 bombers are stationed. On July 30, an unidentified UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) crashed in the hamlet of Daraganovka, in the outskirts of Taganrog.

  • On the night of July 30, Moscow was once again attacked by drones. Two of them crashed into buildings in the Moscow-City business center - the "IQ-kwartal" and "Oko-2" towers - causing windows to shatter on several floors of both buildings.

  • Late on July 30, an explosion occurred in the city of Trubchevsk, in the Bryansk region. The Russian authorities stated that a drone hit the local police department, causing damage to the building.

In this context, it should be noted that while small villages in the border regions of Russia were initially targeted by shelling since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, recently, attacks have become commonplace in major urban centers and military facilities deep within Russia. All these numerous incidents of shelling in Russian settlements are a direct consequence of the war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine. Russia's bloody war has come back as a boomerang to hit Russia itself. The Kremlin regime is facing the consequences of its own actions. During more than 17 months of Russian aggression, the invaders have suffered colossal losses in terms of both manpower and weaponry, which has had a negative impact on the quality of the deployed military equipment as well as the professional qualities of the servicemen. Examples of this include the crash of a Su-34 military aircraft into a high-rise building in Yeysk, Russia, on October 17, 2022, and the explosion on April 20, caused by an aerial bomb "accidentally" dropped by a Russian Su-34 military aircraft in the central part of Belgorod.

Commenting on the explosion in Taganrog, the adviser to the President of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, said: "Everything that is happening in Russia, including Taganrog, is an unequivocal consequence of the large-scale war unleashed by Russia, the growing uncontrollable processes of disintegration of management systems at various levels, and internal protests."
