The former Hotel Continental, known to many for its large Coca-Cola sign, will be turned into a new hub of Brussels culture and open its doors to the public on Friday.
Friday afternoon will mark the opening of Bruxsel'air's new endeavour. The cultural association has redeveloped the six floors of the former hotel and turned them into meeting spaces, a bar, a restaurant, shops, tattoo studios, a hair salon and offices for entrepreneurs.
The grand opening on Friday offers visitors a unique experience in the form of "a sort of giant pop-up store, where different forms of "artistic expressions will be offered to lovers of 'slow culture', creation and vintage", said project leader Vincent Le Merer. From 16:00, the public can enjoy outdoor DJ sets in Place De Brouckère.
The project, authorised by the Land Management Agency and supported by the office of Alderwoman for Public Heritage Lydia Mutyebele Ngoi, will take place for a minimum of 16 months.
“The Continental was built in 1874, and this building has been the emblem of Place De Brouckère for more than a century," stated the Alderwoman. "It could not remain empty following the move of the offices of the Régie Foncière de Bruxelles. This temporary assignment will allow the people of Brussels to visit this beautiful heritage."
