International Support for Ukraine's Hunger Fight with Air Defense Systems

By the end of this year, Germany will supply Ukraine with 1 unit of IRIS-T and 12 units of the Gepard anti-aircraft missile system. This weaponry will safeguard Ukraine's Black Sea and Danube port infrastructure. It will also enhance the protection of grain-carrying vessels traveling along the southwestern part of Ukraine's Black Sea coast towards Romania. In case of necessity, Germany has assured that they will manufacture additional units of IRIS-T for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Russia cannot initiate a full-scale naval blockade of the northwestern part of the Black Sea waters, nor can it engage in aggressive actions against cargo ships flying the flags of third countries heading to Ukrainian ports. Russian military vessels would become vulnerable targets for Ukrainian missiles, making missile and drone strikes the only option for the Kremlin to hinder grain exports from Ukraine, which have resumed unilaterally. In recent days, several ships loaded with Ukrainian grain and food have departed from Black Sea ports in Ukraine towards the Bosporus. This has become another public humiliation for Putin and a testament to the weakness of the Russian army.

The provision of additional air defense systems for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is evidence of support for Ukraine's efforts to prevent global hunger by the international community. Putin's intention to create a food crisis in the world must fail: the resumed export of grain from Ukraine must be securely protected by Western air defense systems. This is a way to avoid global hunger and prevent the flow of illegal migrants into Europe.
