Putin is trying to inspire hatred towards the West in Russian society

On the evening of October 30, Putin made two accusations against the West simultaneously: he pointed to its involvement in organizing anti-Semitic riots at the Machachkala airport, and also voiced an unfounded accusation that the West was preparing for a HAMAS invasion of Israeli territory on October 7. The President of the Russian Federation did not present any evidence to justify such claims. Such rhetoric is intended to amplify hatred towards the West in Russian society by creating an image of an "external enemy."

Such rhetoric is intended to amplify hatred towards the West in Russian society by creating an image of an "external enemy."

As the Kremlin has definitively lost control over the situation in the regions of the Russian Federation, the pool of Russian propagandists is attempting to turn Russians into a society of "absolute hatred," persuading them of the malicious intent of the West. Historically, Russia has always manifested an enemy threatening the "ordinary Russian person," thus the confrontation with such an enemy was meant to unite the heterogeneous Russian society.

However, as events in Dagestan have shown, xenophobia is rapidly spreading in Russia, leading to outbreaks of spontaneous violence. Given the aforementioned rhetoric, no European or American arriving in the Russian Federation will be safe. Russian law enforcement has taken certain actions to protect the passengers arriving from Israel, but there is no certainty that they will react in time in the event of a threat to citizens of EU countries in Russia. Accordingly, travel to Russia should be avoided at all costs—a country with an ideology of hatred towards humanity and a cult of violence openly threatening the West.
