During the summit in Saudi Arabia on August 5-6, international consultations took place on the key principles of restoring a stable and just peace for Ukraine. Among all the countries of the world, Ukraine, which has faced Russian full-scale military aggression, is the one that strives for peace within its territory the most. At the same time, there is a clear understanding that real and sustainable peace must be just. The meeting in Jeddah was the second one after the start of the corresponding format in June in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, which involves meetings of representatives of leading world countries to discuss principles of sustainable and just peace for Ukraine. More than 40 countries participated in the summit, nearly three times more than the consultations in Copenhagen, which demonstrates an extraordinary interest in establishing a sustainable and lasting peace. The importance of the summit for Ukraine is also that it provided an opportunity to convey its peaceful initiatives to countries that until recently maintained a neutral position. In particular, this refers to India and Brazil. The presence of China, represented by its special envoy for Eurasia, Li Hui, was particularly important, indicating that Beijing is ready to seriously consider the Ukrainian version of establishing peace and, at the same time, change its policy towards Russia, which is committing aggression. Russia was not invited to the forum, explaining it by Moscow's unwillingness to conduct civilized negotiations.
According to the head of the Ukrainian delegation, the leader of the Office of the President (OP) Andriy Yermak, some of the representatives of the participating countries had different views, but all countries demonstrated a commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. It is on these principles, as the head of the OP noted, that President Volodymyr Zelensky's formula of peace is built. The Ukrainian formula of peace includes 10 points: ensuring radiation and nuclear security, food security, energy security, liberation of all prisoners and deportees, implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and global order, withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities, restoration of justice: that is, a tribunal for those responsible for aggression and compensation for damages, counteraction to ecocide, prevention of escalation, recording the end of the war.
On the eve of the summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized its importance, noting that in matters such as food security, the fate of millions of people in Africa, Asia, and other parts of the world depends directly on how quickly the world will move towards the implementation of the peace formula.
The recent meeting in Jeddah was an important step towards the practical implementation of the peaceful initiatives proposed by Ukraine. Each participating state can demonstrate leadership in global efforts for peace. Moreover, most of them have already defined their role in implementing specific points of Zelensky's peace formula. In addition, delegates agreed to form working groups on key topics of Zelensky's peace formula.
