On August 15, the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted the most massive missile attack on the western regions of Ukraine since the beginning of the war. In Lviv alone, no less than 100 buildings were hit, with 70 apartments destroyed by rocket debris and one rocket hitting a kindergarten. The flight to Lutsk resulted in the death of three civilians. The air defense system also operated in Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy regions, and Dnipro. In total, during the attack, Russians launched 28 cruise missiles of types X-101/X-555, X-22, and "Kalibr," with 16 of them shot down. The nature of the destruction indicates intentional selection of civilian targets, as the coordinates of the targets are pre-programmed into Russian cruise missiles. Russia uses terror and crimes against Ukrainian civilians as instruments of war. Air defense systems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine are crucial and will save thousands of civilian lives.
Rocket strikes on rear Ukrainian cities have become an integral feature of Russia's annexation war against Ukraine. The Russian Aerospace Forces employ missiles and strike drones to terrorize Ukrainian civilians. The recent rocket attack once again confirmed Putin's goal of Ukrainian genocide, as Russian cruise missiles targeted industrial facilities (in Dnipro, Smila, and Lutsk) and residential buildings (in Lviv). The likelihood of deviation of cruise missiles from designated targets is minimal – Russian propaganda traditionally interprets the shelling of Ukrainian residential buildings as if it were the result of air defense systems. However, the scale of destruction and craters prove that it was caused by the impact of the X-22 missile, which has immense destructive power. Its use within populated areas constitutes a war crime.
Russia has turned into a threat to the entire civilized world. Rocket terror in Ukrainian cities is an endorsement of committing similar crimes against European cities. It is expected that on the eve of winter, Russians will intensively shell Ukrainian energy infrastructure in another attempt to make the lives of Ukrainians unbearable. Given these circumstances, timely provision of air defense and missile defense systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces has the highest priority: amidst continuous rocket terror from Russia, the skies over Ukraine must be reliably protected – ensuring the salvation of thousands of Ukrainian civilian lives.
