For the first time, the University of Antwerp has organised a winter school on location in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 5 until 14 February. The lessons will focus on the diamond industry and will be supported by the Belgian diamond sector.
The programme, called From Mine to Finger: a Deep Dive into the World of Diamonds, will provide students with workshops and excursions centred around the diamond business. This is a collaboration between three partners: the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), the University of Antwerp and the renowned Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
Some subjects include innovation, sustainability and transparency, the economic impact of the diamond industry and downstream value addition and beneficiation on the African continent.
